If you have a visited a mainstream church in recent years, typically self-identifying as “progressive”, you may find that it feels as if you’ve walked into “Our Lady of the ACLU”.
There’s a great deal of “social justice” and causes such that at some point one wonders if the current era of clergy were hoping to be civil rights attorneys but couldn’t pass the LCAT or afford law school. They seem to have discovered that the pulpit can be used as a bully pulpit, with the added advantage that opinions are elevated to “The Word. of God“.
It is a clever way to change lanes, something that seems to be happening more and more.
The logical candidate for a city District Attorney would be a long serving Assistant D.A. with a track record of successful convictions. Yet more and more cities have elected District Attorneys who are functioning as defense attorneys. Chesa Boudin of S.F. and George Gascon of L.A. certainly fall under this category of district attorneys who are highly opposed to prosecution. The ideological opposition to consequences for criminal behavior and protection of the innocent violates their oath of office and negates the “checks and balances” of our two-sided criminal justice system wherein the prosecutor represents the victims of crime and the defense attorney protects the rights of the accused. Now all are on the same side. Victims have no voice. Citizens have no protection.
The Pentagon has a primary obligation to prepare to fight and win wars. Now the leadership claims their concern is fighting “climate change”. It is hard to imagine something marines, soldiers, sailors, and air force pilots are less equipped to do. Will they have soldiers riding in solar powered tanks that shut down at night leaving them stranded? No carbon footprint, just a crater where a tank full of war fighters once were. Tragic. Save the planet, sacrifice the nation? We may end up being overtaken by a society that has less delicate sensibilities about the ecosystem.
During the COVID shutdown the public education teacher’s union was found to be directing the CDC so that they could stay at home in perpetuity, denying children in-person education, social interaction, as well as a place to be so their parents can perform their own jobs.
Similarly the CDC has given itself unconstitutional powers over the economy to eliminate the notion of private property by asserting that landlords cannot insist on being paid by the tenants. If you have to donate your property for no compensation it would at least be desirable if you could choose the beneficiary. Perhaps a relative could use free housing. If any department should engage in such issues, one would think it would be an agency vaguely related to housing and economics, one that could arrange to compensate landlords for losses. What does an epidemiologist know about destroying the rental economy?
Most recently it is reported that the administration will be more than doubling the Internal Revenue Service, adding as many as 87,000 agents. An advertisement posted by the IRS indicated a need for candidates to be able to carry a gun and use lethal force. In preparation for this new Rambo style tax agency has amassed over five million rounds of ammunition. Perhaps if the Navy is too occupied reverting to carbon free sailing vessels, we can unleash the IRS in the event of an invasion by China?
There is a notion in Hollywood that actors want to be athletes and athletes want to be actors. But perhaps it is time to ask our authority figures to check their vows, oaths, and charters and try to just stay in their lane.
