In her brief 2024 presidential campaign Kamala Harris had a slogan
“We Are Not Going Back”
She was never clear about anything, but I imagine it may have referred to abortion and a ruling that sent the laws back to the states, as opposed to the federal government. I am not sure how she would have changed that in short term. But the truth is I don’t want to discuss abortion here. Go see my post “What the ?” [1] for those thoughts.
I want to highlight a greater regression in the rights of women and girls which we have experienced in recent years.
I am a 20th century feminist. The timing of my birth was well placed for me to pursue my objectives. If any era changed the world of women it was that one. It began with the women’s suffrage movement pursuing the right to vote. By the end of the century so much had been realized.
In 1920 the 19th Amendment to the Constitution gave women the right to vote.
In 1932 Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic.
In the 1940’s, while men were at war, women worked in the factories, idealized as “Rosie the Riveter.” Female pilots flew planes from base to base.
In the 1960’s Frances “Poppy” Northcutt was a computer engineer working on NASA’s Apollo program.
In 1976 West Point admitted its first female cadets.
In 1977 Janet Guthrie, physicist and aerospace engineer, became the first woman to race the Indianapolis 500.
In 1981 Sandra Day O’Connor became the first woman appointed to serve as a Justice on the Supreme Court
In 1983 Sally Ride became the first female astronaut in space.
Capable women accomplishing great achievements.
WHERE ARE WE NOW?
They want to take us back to the 1950’s
A 14 year old girl is raped in the girl’s bathroom in a high school. The school covers it up and moves him to a different school where he offends again [2]. Is the boy the star quarterback about to play in the state championship game? No. He is a boy in a skirt. But the outcome for the girl is the same.
WE ARE NOT GOING THERE
They want to take us back to the Elizabethan era or even ancient Greece
All the roles are played by men. Men are men. Men are women. No need for women to take the stage.
The entire premise of women’s sports and women’s spaces is based on the physical differences between men and women.
In 2023 the Boston Marathon added a “Non-Binary” category to the Men’s and Women’s categories to allow for people with either gender confusion or chemical experimentation. Yet it still allows XY biological males to compete as “men”, to compete as “Non-Binary”, and to compete as “women” [3]. You see it is all about men invading every space to the diminution of women and girls.
They are in the locker room, on the team, atop the podium, figuratively and literally beating women to get the medal, set the record, maybe get the scholarship. They are “woman” of the year.
WE ARE NOT GOING THERE
They want to take us out of time, to some primitive brutish existence.
Little girls who cannot yet get a tattoo, or have their ears pierced without a parent’s consent, are taken to have their genitals mutilated and organs removed, and given hormones that will have permanent health consequences. This is something that evokes images of Doctor Mengele, a real Nazi doctor, who conducted medical experiments on prisoners in concentration camps.

In 1940 Winston Churchill gave a speech honoring the Royal Air Force during the Battle of Britain. He stated:
“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few”
To borrow his formalism, as to the status of women:
“So much has been achieved by so many over so long a time,
to throw it all away in a moment of insanity.
